Role Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the physical design of Rivian’s electric vehicle systems! We’re looking for a highly motivated, multi-disciplined mechanical design & release engineer to help us design and develop Exterior components on current and future Rivian Models.


Responsibilities

  • Design, Develop, and release Exterior Components including, but not limited to Fascia’s, FEM, Claddings, Pillar Trims, badges etc.
  • Apply your expert knowledge of various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, compression molding, 2-shot molding, overmolding etc.
  • Work with the studio team to provide feedback and generate high quality A-surfaces that meet all DFM requirements while keeping with the theme of the vehicle
  • Use first principle driven design direction in order to develop exterior components that is best for the product overall
  • Create different CAD concepts for issues, detailed 2D sections and concept 3D CAD during initial development
  • Work with cross functional teams to develop high quality design that meets requirements of the system as a whole
  • Mentor less experienced Design & Release Engineers
  • Manage mass/cost/time etc. and proactively communicate issues to all other stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred)
  • 6 yrs. of exterior component design and release experience
  • Catia v5 / v6 operative skills, to be able to demonstrate high technical competence.
  • 4+ years of experience in Automotive exteriors mechanisms from concept to production
  • Proven supplier management skills based on working with a mix of build-to-print and full-service suppliers.
  • Generation of 3D geometry & sectional data. (Key module utilization: Part design & Geometric Surface design)
  • Compliance with company procedures & quality standards
  • Involvement in process improvements.
  • Highly motivated with good logical reasoning. Strong numeracy & literacy with good organizational & communication skills
  • A desire to strive for improvements to achieve high customer satisfaction.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range Irvine-Based Applicants: $137,800-$172,200 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment.
